  • The Microsoft Surface Go is here. It has a similar design to the Surface Pro and features a 10-inch PixelSense display, integrated kickstand and runs on Windows 10. Our question – what is it designed to compete with?

Apple Mac mini (late 2014 base model), Apple iPad Pro 10.5 (2017)... plus this Microsoft Surface Go.

    Is that a good combination?

Am still confused what portable computer to get next:
Apple MacBook Air (2017 base model)
Apple MacBook Air (2018 base model)
    Lenovo Yoga 530 (i5, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD)
    or this Microsoft Surface Go

Same price as a iPad but able to do some actual work on it.

Surface Go is basically best compared to a netbook. It should be $150 to $250. On the other hand, Surface Pro should be $300 to $400.

Well, the differences between low tier iPad and high tier iPad is never performance. They both perform very well. Microsoft's low tier substantially undercuts user performance from the high tier. Just buy a Dell laptop, they make the best ones. Easy to swap out hard drive, and easy to double the memory, and you get better pricing options with Windows 10. I use Dell laptops and Apple iPads. It is the best combination for power and pricing. If you want to be really adventurous, then get an Android phone in the mix.

More RAM is obviously a good thing, but getting work done on my Surface Pro 4 with 4gb RAM is completely unproblematic.

I bought the lower end one to carry to and from school and work. I really like it. I only run web and word processing apps on it so it’s great for that. If I ever wanted to run more complex programs, I’d use my computer.
