So what if the rules were “the lightest“ and you took the balloons. The contraption itself (without the Egg) weighs less than 0 Gramms right. So you’d have a minus weight contraption. You win

    Cool ideas!
Unfortunatly, I don't have cool physics teachers, so we're not having any competition like that.

I used an 8" cube of foam like you use in a foam pit. Cut it in half, cut the egg shape out of the center like a mold. Put the egg in there and tape or rubber band it together.

I did mine with a milk carton and a string. Filled the empty milk carton up with water until the egg was barely touching the water. Trick was thought that the egg was on a string that was hanging from the cap of the milk jug. The drop was from the top of the school and that was about 4 stories. It had to not only survive the drop but had to land in a target zone, thus taking away the ability to use gallons because they would float. Similar to such the straw method couldn’t be used because the speed was such that by the time it got down 4 stories, the speed was to much and the straws would collapse on each other and the egg would break. Much to the dismay of my (only slightly) soaked classmates, at the end of the drop, my egg was the only one to survive due to the way the impact was not only absorbed by the carton, but also the water inside. The water also created a cushion for the egg and the string prevented it from going to far down. Was by far the best one I found, and it worked really well

My teacher gave bonus points minimal air time. Parachutes were allowed, but would reduce your overall score because it was so slow to drop.

My team strung a bunch of rubber bands through the open space inside a box and sandwiched the egg between the rubber bands. It could drop as quickly as possible, yet keep the egg safe for repeated drops. Even playing soccer with the box couldn't hurt the egg. The egg finally broke only when it slipped out from the rubber bands after punting the box across a field.
